One thing is worth knowing before buying the Vision VIS-DEI-011 Electric Iron: this is a dry iron, not a steam iron. There is no water tank inside, so for cotton or starched clothes you sprinkle a little water yourself or use a spray bottle. In exchange the unit stays light and simple, and there is no risk of water leaking onto the fabric and leaving marks.

The most irritating part of ironing is the plate dragging on fabric, or a synthetic garment melting onto it. The sole-plate here is non-stick coated, so it glides across the cloth and is far less likely to stick. A thermostat lets you match the heat to the fabric — lower for silk and synthetics, higher for cotton and denim.

Once the set temperature is reached, this Vision Dry Iron stops drawing power on its own and resumes when the plate cools, which reduces the chance of scorching a garment and keeps electricity use down. Overheat and burn protection are built in, and the thermostat is rated for 500 hours of service.

A cord that twists and stops the iron turning freely is the other everyday nuisance, so a 360-degree swivel cord guard is fitted. The power cord is 1.5 m long, two-pin, in copper (3×0.75 mm²). Important Usage Instructions

• Never pour water into this iron — it is a dry iron with no water tank; dampen the cloth instead.
• Start at the lowest setting and work up: silk and synthetics need low heat, cotton and denim need high.
• Test on an inside seam first when ironing a new synthetic garment.
• Unplug and let the iron cool completely before wiping the sole-plate; never scrape it with anything metal.
• Stand the iron on its heel between passes and never leave it face-down on fabric while hot.
